Overview
Provides a full read-only year view display in a users web browser (rather than
requiring a client to have Microsoft Outlook installed), within the controlled environment
of an Intranet, or across the Internet itself.
YVW has no dependency on Outlook Web Access (OWA), and can be installed on any suitable
web server (see requirements) and accessed like any other web application. That said
you can make a small modification to OWA to provide a shortcut that links to YVW,
effectively integrating it within the OWA interface.
Features
- Passed the Microsoft Platform Test for ISV Solutions
- Limited multi-language support - The users’ browser regional settings are detected,
and the appropriate date/time format is used for display. For example, if a user
from France accesses the application running on a server based in Australia, they
will see all the day and month headings in their own language, and the date/time
tool tips in the correct format.
- Define the start month for a year - Rather than the default of January, you can
choose an alternate month that is more appropriate to the information you are displaying.
- Configurable static text - Tooltips, the Year text, the categories heading, etc.
- can be configured on the server as appropriate to your locale and the information
that you are displaying. For example, you may wish to use the word Season or Année
rather than Year.
- Clickable Events - Allow users to click on any displayed event so they can add the
event to their own local calendar (using vCalendar format Version 1.0).
- Connected Mode - Obtains information to display from Exchange Server. This can be
configured to use a Fixed, or User Specific calendar. A fixed calendar would typically
be a public folder calendar that is of general interest. The user specific mode
is ideal for integration with OWA; the application determines the identity of the
logged on user, and shows a year view of their personal Outlook calendar (Please note: this
mode requires that Outlook Year View has been used on the Exchange Calendar to define the
categories).
- Disconnected Mode - The application obtains the information to display from an offline
file source (XML format). The file can be generated by performing an Export from
the registered version of Outlook Year View.
Requirements
- Server: Windows 2000 or 2003 running IIS and the .NET Framework V2 (and Exchange
Server 2000 or 2003 for connected mode).
- Client: Tried and tested with Internet Explorer
5.5 and above and FireFox.
- Recommended:
Outlook Year View can be used to generate the XML files used in disconnected
mode.
